Dash and Draw

How can we make the learning and development of vocabulary fun and engaging in the classroom? Well, Dash and Draw is one way of doing that.

There are a number of ways you could deliver Dash and Draw

  1. Learners form pairs or small groups.
  2. The teacher conceals a word / phrase or sentence.
  3. Learner A dashes to the teacher and reads the word / phrase or sentence and then dash back to their partner or group and draw a visual representation of the word / phrase or sentence whilst the others try to guess.
  4. When they have guessed, another learner dashes to the teacher and tells them the word / phrase or sentence.
  5. If they are correct, then the teacher gives them the next word / phrase or sentence and repeat.
  6. The winners are the group that finish first.

You could also:

  1. Form pairs or small groups.
  2. Conceal a visual / image / realia that is related to the content of the lesson.
  3. Learner A dashes to the teacher and looks at the visual / image / realia.
  4. Dash back to their partner or small group and draw the visual / image / realia. The other learners have to guess what it being drawn and when they guess correctly they dash to the teacher and tell them what Learner A drew in words / phrases or short sentences.
  5. Repeat again until you have a winner.
