How can we make the learning and development of vocabulary fun and engaging in the classroom? Well, Dash and Draw is one way of doing that.
There are a number of ways you could deliver Dash and Draw
- Learners form pairs or small groups.
- The teacher conceals a word / phrase or sentence.
- Learner A dashes to the teacher and reads the word / phrase or sentence and then dash back to their partner or group and draw a visual representation of the word / phrase or sentence whilst the others try to guess.
- When they have guessed, another learner dashes to the teacher and tells them the word / phrase or sentence.
- If they are correct, then the teacher gives them the next word / phrase or sentence and repeat.
- The winners are the group that finish first.
You could also:
- Form pairs or small groups.
- Conceal a visual / image / realia that is related to the content of the lesson.
- Learner A dashes to the teacher and looks at the visual / image / realia.
- Dash back to their partner or small group and draw the visual / image / realia. The other learners have to guess what it being drawn and when they guess correctly they dash to the teacher and tell them what Learner A drew in words / phrases or short sentences.
- Repeat again until you have a winner.
