Attached is a Word document of a barrier activity that I found to be very helpful for my EAL learners when they were learning to write creatively / descriptively. I have used this activity with beginners and think that it could easily be adapted for more proficient learners with tweaks made to the types of vocabulary and phrases that you include.
Learners sit facing each other to complete their table.
They then work together to construct creative / descriptive sentences that are shared with the whole class.
It can be turned into a game in which points are awarded to the pair with the best creative / descriptive sentences.
