Even EAL learners that are beginners or new to English can access mainstream / academic texts if we provide them with the right types of scaffolds. If we highlight or underline the parts of a text where they will find the answers then this can take away some of the burden of locating the information themselves.
I recommend highlighting or underlining the parts of the text where the information can be found. It is a type of scaffold that is extremely supportive of EAL learners and gives them access to grade level content.
It’s not even that hard to do or prepare!
