Memory

Memory is a good activity to play with New to English learners.

You need to create a set of cards with pairs of matching words or phrases or have a word and a definition for your learners to match.

Learners lay them face down on a table

Take it in turns to turn two cards over and see if they match.  If they match then that player keeps them.  If they don’t match then they have to place them back, face down, on the table.

Repeat the above.

The winner is the player with the most cards.

This is a great strategy for word recognition and revising words or phrases that have been taught in class.

Attached is an example I have used in Maths and an example for the language features of writing to argue.
