Using real objects instead of images or oral explanations can be an extremely powerful classroom strategy for EAL learners and allows them to engage in classroom content.
I have found real objects / real life activities / real situations to be highly supportive in helping my EAL learners understand concepts and ideas that they are learning about.
For example, in the Science classroom using real objects such as test tubes, Bunsen burners and thermometers has been far more engaging than just talking about them or showing images of them.
